Rand Paul Releases Festivus Edition of How Much Money the Government Wastes

Republican Senator Rand Paul is out with a Festivus addition of his quarterly report about how the government wastes taxpayer money.

"Today, U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), chairman of the Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management (FSO) Subcommittee for the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC), released his 2019 Festivus edition of The Waste Report," his office released in a statement. "Dr. Paul’s fifth edition of the Festivus Waste Report collects his 2019 Spring, Summer, and Fall Waste Reports as he continues working to alert the American people to how the government uses their hard-earned money."

The report is 57 pages long and finds more than $50 billion in wasteful government spending on a series of projects and studies.

"Happy Festivus! Another year gone already. It seems like just yesterday I was sounding the alarm over a $20 trillion debt, and now the U.S. has pushed past $23 trillion!" Paul writes in the report. "Admittedly, this is a pretty bleak picture. But hope is not lost. The problem of government waste is extremely solvable ... with the right willpower. This year, I’ve been hard at work not only highlighting  wasteful spending but trying to make sure Congress addresses the fiscal problems it has created for itself."

In addition to outlining the waste, the report gives examples of what else $50 billion could have been used for: 100,000 of a paved four lane highway, seven months of medical care for America's veterans, six years worth of funding for the federal court system and more.
