Remember the Cyclist Who Flipped Off Trump? She Just Won an Election in Virginia

The cyclist who gave President Trump’s motorcade the middle finger last year won a local election in Northern Virginia on Tuesday.

Democrat Juli Briskman defeated GOP incumbent Suzanne Volpe for a seat representing the Algonkian District on the Loudon County Board of Supervisors.

Briskman, who was fired from her job for violating its “code-of-conduct policy” after making the photo her social media profile photo, won the race with 54 percent of the vote, according to the Virginia Department of Elections website.

“Two years ago I was fired for standing up to the backwards agenda of Donald Trump. But now my neighbors in Algonkian District have backed me up and rejected the Trump agenda,” Briskman told HuffPost Tuesday night. “We worked really hard on this campaign. It was a tough race. I’m excited to create a Loudoun County that works for everyone.”

After losing her job, Briskman unsuccessfully sued the company she worked for, Akima LLC, arguing that her termination was a violation of her First Amendment rights.

When the case was dismissed, Briskman turned her attention toward politics, announcing a run for local office.

“I feel I can more successfully effect change by serving in local government than by fighting an uphill battle in unfriendly courts,” she wrote on her crowdfunding page.
