Dems Outspent The GOP In North Carolina Races But Here's How Republicans Came Out Victorious

Although the Democrats were heavily focused on winning in North Carolina's 3rd and 9th Congressional Districts and they outspent the GOP heavily, Republicans Dan Bishop and Greg Murphy came out victorious on Tuesday night.

But how did they win when the odds were stacked against them, at least on the monetary front?

According to Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, President Donald Trump rallied voters and helped push the candidates over the finish line. In particular, Trump's last minute stump on Monday night gave Bishop a last minute boost, which helped him squeeze a narrow victory.

According to a source at the RNC gave some insight into what ground game that allowed Republicans to come out on top:

• The RNC began their ground came in North Carolina back in June.
• Between RNC staff and volunteers, over a half a million voters were contacted throughout the state. Those contacts were made by phone and door knocking.
• The RNC, Trump Campaign, and Trump Make America Great Again Committee recently highlighted the NC specials and the Bishop campaign raised nearly $200,000 in grassroots donations utilizing the WinRed platform.
• The GOP began laying the groundwork for a national convention next summer and an operation for President Trump's re-election, as well as down ballot races.
• The RNC invested a total of $1.5 million in North Carolina to date.

The Congressional Leadership Fund played a vital role in helping Bishop as well.

• The CLF made early TV and digital ad buys.
• When early polling showed Republicans lagging, the CLF invested an additional $400,000 on get out the vote efforts, which included sending additional mailers, making additional phone calling and sending additional text messages.
• The CLI invested a total of $2.4 million in Bishop's race.
