It's no secret that Democrats, particularly those who are running for president, want to enact strict gun control laws. They've each come up with their own "plans" that with supposedly curb mass shootings and end gun violence. California Sen. Kamala Harris came out in full force back in April, saying if elected president, she would give Congress 100 days to "get their act together and have the courage to pass gun safety laws" or she would use executive action to make her proposal a reality.
Apparently Kamala believes in her plan so much that she believes it would have stopped Wednesday's shooting against police in Philadelphia.
"When will it stop, right?" Harris asked CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "Part of my focus on what we need to do around smart gun safety laws is we have to have more enforcement around gun dealers. Wolf, 90 percent of the guns that are associated with crime are sold by just five percent of the gun dealers in the United States and so, among many plans that I have, both in the form of executive action and legislation, one of them is to put more resources into the ATF and take licenses away from gun dealers who violate the law."
"And that includes a number of things, including when they're responsible for doing background checks and not doing them," she said.
According to Harris, Congress has failed to act on gun violence.
"We need Congress to act. We do not lack for good ideas. We do not lack for tragedies. The failure of Congress, however, the United States Congress, to act on passing smart gun safety laws is the issue," Harris explained. "So, when elected, I'll give the United States Congress 100 days to pull their act together on this and put a bill on my desk for signature and, if they do not, I am prepared to take executive action to one, put in place a comprehensive background check requirement; two, put resources into the ATF to take the licenses from gun dealers who violate the laws; and three, to ban the importation of assault weapons
The worst part of this whole ordeal: she made this proclamation as the shooting was still taking place. The scene was still active and the suspect was still shooting at police.
It's not like Kamala knew how many officers were shot.
It's not like Kamala knew how many suspects there were.
It's not like Kamala knew how the suspect(s) obtained their weapons.
She is willing to die on the gun control hill and she doesn't even know all of the facts. How original, right?
The truth of the matter is Americans are sick and tired of politicians exploiting tragedies – especially when they're still unfolding – to benefit them. Making assumptions about scenarios doesn't do anything but further divide us.
