Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney told Bill Hemmer on “Fox News Sunday” that Mexico has done more to stop illegal immigration than House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the rest of the Democrats.

“In the last week, Mexico really has stepped it up for the very first time,” Mulvaney said. “They’re preventing people from coming in on their own southern border down towards Guatemala and Honduras and they’re also accepting more of the folks that cross into the United States back into Mexico. In fact — and I know it’s hard to imagine — but again, Nancy Pelosi runs the Democrats in Congress. Mexico has done more in the last week to help our illegal immigration crisis than Nancy Pelosi and Democrats in the House.”
Mulvaney said that border security and immigration is President Donald Trump’s “number one” concern. He said that the president is primarily responsible for making sure the nation is protected from foreign threats.

“This is his number one priority. Keep in mind, dealing with health care is nice, dealing with the economy is nice,” he said. “The president’s first responsibility is to defend the integrity and safety of the nation. And we really do believe — and I think, again, most folks are starting to agree with us now — that the situation at the border is a national security crisis.”
Mulvaney also told Hemmer that the Democrats will never be able to see the president’s tax returns.

"That’s an issue that was already litigated during the election,” he said. “Voters knew the president could have given his tax returns. They knew that he didn’t and they elected him anyway."
Hemmer said that the Democrats’ demand for Trump’s tax returns came after no collusion was found between the president and Russia in Robert Mueller’s report.
“And after that we’ll be on something else,” Mulvaney said. “Let’s face it. The Democrat party’s infested with what we call ‘Trump derangement syndrome.’ They still cannot accept the fact that he won the election and they’ll do anything they can to either undo that or prevent that from happening again.”
On the program, Hemmer also talked with Rep. Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), who said that Trump in the past promised to release his tax returns.

“No other president in modern times has had to have their tax returns requested under 6103 because they’ve all voluntarily shared them,” Luján said. “Just as President Trump promised as a candidate that he would share his tax returns. After he was elected he promised to share his tax returns with the American people and he’s refused to do so.”
