Piers Morgan's Savage Open Letter to Jussie Smollett

If you thought Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel was ticked off at Jussie Smollett, just wait until you see what Piers Morgan had to say. The "Empire" actor recently got off basically scot-free on felony charges that he staged a hate crime attack in the Windy City. He had alleged that two President Trump supporters ambushed him at night, shouted racist and homophobic slurs at him, poured bleach on him and tied a rope around his neck. The city spent tons of resources investigating the incident, until the two "attackers," two Nigerian brothers, revealed that Smollett had paid them to attack him. One of the men had even worked as an extra on "Empire."

Police had more evidence to prove Smollett fabricated the attack and that's why, in a press conference last month, Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said the actor should "man up" and return the resources he stole from Chicago.

"Absolute justice would be an apology to the city he smeared," he said, adding that the whole affair "pissed everybody off."

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel shared Johnson's frustration - both with Smollett and with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, who shockingly dropped the charges on Tuesday. Emanuel called Smollett a "self-promoter" and accused the state attorney's office of a "whitewash of justice."

Morgan, it turns out, also has little sympathy for the "Empire" actor. He offered Smollett this "apology."

But I would like to make an apology instead, to Smollett himself, and it’s this: I’m truly sorry that I was so complimentary about him.

In fact, I wish I’d gone in much harder.

For the truth is Smollett wasn’t content with just perpetrating an act of wicked deception that grabbed global headlines and made a mockery of real victims of racial or homophobic attacks.

No, he had to go a step further even than that and pretend he’s been completely exonerated of any wrongdoing and is once again the victim – not just of the original ‘attack’, but now of a terrible slur against his good name and reputation.

By doing this, he has confirmed himself to be a truly despicable human being.

It takes a rare kind of execrable douchebag to invoke his mother, God, black history, justice, equality and the ‘betterment of marginalised people’ as he brazenly lies about being cleared over an incident that did unbelievable damage to justice, equality and marginalised people. (Daily Mail)

Morgan suggested Smollett be fired from "Empire" and banished from Hollywood. His first wish partly came true, as Fox producers announced last month they had written off his character from the last episodes of the show's latest season.

Morgan also sounded off on State Attorney Kim Foxx, but let's stick with the first target.

"One thing’s for sure," Morgan noted. "Smollett is a GREAT actor."
