Um, What? Pelosi Tries To Argue Illegals Should Be Able to Vote...Using a Reagan Quote?

Earlier this week, Speaker Nancy Pelosi held a press conference in Austin, Texas. One of the issues that came up was whether or not "new immigrants" – translation: illegal aliens – should be allowed to vote. Of course, we know where Pelosi (and her Democratic caucus) stands on this issue. They believe anyone who lives in America, regardless of their citizenship status, should be able to vote in our elections. During her press conference, she made a rather strange appeal using a quote by President Ronald Reagan.

When we talk about newcomers, we have to recognize the constant reinvigoration of America that they are, that we all have been – our families. And that, unless you’re blessed to be Native American – which is a blessing in itself that we respect – but that constant reinvigoration of hope, determination, optimism, courage, to make the future better for the next generation, those are American traits.

And these newcomers make America more American. And we want them, when they come here, to be fully part of our system. And that means not suppressing the vote of our newcomers to America.

Ronald Reagan said this: 'This is the last speech I will make as President of the United States and I have a message I want to communicate to the country I love.' He went on to talk about the Statue of Liberty, what it means to the world and that beacon of hope, what it means to people who have come here and seen that statue to welcome them: our ancestors, our parents, our grandparents.

We in California see people coming from a different direction but the same welcome. You see this, many coming from the south of the border but it should be the same welcome.

He went on to say, though, after talking about the Statue of Liberty: ‘The vital force of America’s preeminence in the world is every new generation of immigrants who come to our country. And when America fails to recognize that as our vital force, America will fail to be preeminent in the world.'

Is Nancy delusional or does she truly believe what she said?

Yes, America is a beacon of hope. We're the nation that every other country looks to be like. We're the most powerful nation in the world and people want to come here to pursue the American Dream.

When Pelosi makes speeches like this, they're clearly geared towards conservatives. It's like she thinks if she quotes Reagan that suddenly every ounce of our opposition to illegal immigration will suddenly dwindle. If anything, speeches like this reaffirm what we believe.

We aren't opposed to welcoming legal immigrants from Central America. What Nancy is trying to say is that we don't welcome illegal aliens because they're from the southern border, not Europe. That's not the case at all. Conservatives don't care if a person comes from Central America, Asia or Europe. We just want to make sure people are doing it the proper way, that they're being vetted, that they're paying into our tax system and that they're contributing to society. We aren't standing with open arms to welcome anyone and everyone who wants to come to America. We don't want to see the drug cartel, terrorists, murderers and rapists crossing our border. And it doesn't matter if they're crossing the border by land, sea or air. We. Do. Not. Want. Them. Here. Period.

Americans – and Democrats in general – need to wake up and smell the roses. They need to recognize one important tidbit that they like to forget: the United States has a target on its back. We have real threats being made against us and our livelihood is at stake. For once, we need to stop thinking about everyone else's well-being and start putting ours first.
