Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe confirmed to CBS News's Scott Pelley this week that, yes, he did green light an obstruction of justice probe against President Trump because he was "concerned" by reports that the president had been elected with the help of the Russian government. His concern grew after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey.
During his "60 Minutes" interview, McCabe also noted that he was aware of former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's supposed joke that he wear a wire during conversations with Trump. The DOJ also suggested invoking the 25th amendment to remove him from office.
"There were meetings at the Justice Department at which it was discussed whether the vice president and a majority of the cabinet could be brought together to remove the president of the United States under the 25th Amendment," he explained.
Following some major outrage, McCabe's communications team felt compelled to release a clarification about those remarks on Friday.

Some Republican lawmakers say this is a good reminder why McCabe and other FBI representatives need to come and answer some of the Senate's questions about FBI surveillance and the agency's pervasive bias against President Trump.
In his response to McCabe's interview, Trump said the former official is a "disgrace to the FBI."
