The Telegraph, a British newspaper, has apologized for numerous falsehoods about First Lady Melania Trump and her family in a recent story.
In a statement issued this Saturday, The Telegraph's mea culpa said that an article titled "The Mystery of Melania" actually "contained a number of false statements which we accept should not have been published."
In detail, the paper said that they were sorry for lying about her father and saying that he "was not a fearsome presence and did not control the family" as last week's article falsely said.
Furthermore, it seems the paper completely fabricated Mrs. Trump's entire career, dating back to her university days.
"Mrs. Trump did not leave her Design and Architecture course at University relating to the completion of an exam, as alleged in the article, but rather because she wanted to pursue a successful career as a professional model," the paper said.
It continued, noting that the First Lady "was not struggling in her modeling career before she met" Donald Trump. She did not "advance in her career" due to his assistance either.
The paper also lied about Mrs. Trump's immediate family's living situation. "The article also wrongly claimed that Mrs Trump’s mother, father and sister relocated to New York in 2005 to live in buildings owned by Mr Trump. They did not," the British news admitted.
Finally, the paper apologized for the blatant falsehood that Mrs. Trump "cried on election night." She did not.
The paper concluded, saying, "We apologise unreservedly to The First Lady and her family for any embarrassment caused by our publication of these allegations. As a mark of our regret we have agreed to pay Mrs. Trump substantial damages as well as her legal costs."
