Here's Why Rubio Is Not a Fan of the 'National Emergency' Route

While Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is urging President Trump to declare a national emergency already, his colleague Marco Rubio is cautioning against it. If Trump declares one now over border security, who knows what future Democratic presidents will use one for.

“If today, the national emergency is border security…tomorrow the national emergency might be climate change,” Rubio wondered on CNBC's "Squawk Box."

So, he said, “we have to be careful about endorsing broad uses of executive power,” adding, “I’m not prepared to endorse that right now.”

On the same token, Rubio does seem to support Trump's plans to finally get that border wall built.

The senator has also called out Democrats for their short term memory related to border security.

Rubio need not worry yet. At the White House Friday Trump said he had no immediate plans to call for a national emergency.

Yet, the president tweeted all morning on Saturday about his plans to follow through on his campaign promise to build a border wall.
