Days after saying he is the most qualified Democrat to run against President Donald Trump in 2020, former Vice President Joe Biden made an appearance in Sen. Bernie Sanders' stomping grounds: Vermont.
Biden appeared at an event to promote his new book “Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose," which goes into details about the loss of his son, Beau, to cancer in 2015.
Well-known author Jodi Picoult interviewed Biden about his book and, specifically, about running for president, the Burlington Free Press reported.
"I thought I was the best-equipped to finish the job Barack and I had started," he said.
Then Beau was diagnosed with cancer. Despite that though, members of his family actually encouraged him to still run.
"I didn't have the courage to do it," he said.
The book focuses on the promise Biden made to his son to "stay engaged" in the world.
"When my life is finished, I want to be able to say I kept my commitment to Beau," he said.
While various topics were discussed, there was no mention of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and whether or not he would potentially face off with Biden in the Democratic primary.
Although Biden is contemplating running in 2020, he hasn't officially announced his candidacy. Over the last year Biden has traveled to 23 states and Washington, D.C. to promote his book, POLITICO reported. Some are also saying this is a way for him to put out feelers and potentially lay the groundwork for a 2020 campaign. He's done a number of events in key battleground states, like Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Florida.
