Finally: Brenda Snipes Resigns as Broward County Elections Supervisor

Broward County Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes resigned from her post just hours after the county recounted ballots from the 2018 midterm elections.

“It is true. She did send it,” Burnadette Norris-Weeks, an attorney who works as counsel to the Supervisor of Elections Office, told the Sun-Sentinel.

According to Evelyn Perez-Verdia, a former office spokeswoman, she saw a version of the letter early Sunday morning. In the letter, 75-year-old Snipes said she wanted to spend more time with her family.

Snipes' resignation concludes 15 years of service which includes numerous botched elections, legal disputes and strong criticism.

It remains unclear when the resignation goes into effect. Norris-Weeks said she believes it was effective Jan. 2. Perez-Verdia said she was told the effective date was Jan. 5.

If Snipes remains in her post through the end of the year, Governor-elect Ron DeSantis would be responsible for appointing someone to fill her shoes. If her resignation happens before his swearing in, current Governor Rick Scott would be responsible for the appointment.
