Democratic Senator: We Could Have A SCOTUS Vacancy For A Couple Years If We Derail Kavanaugh

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) seems pretty geared towards derailing Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination. Even suggesting that if they’re successful, they can leave the court vacant for two years until the next presidential election. It’s every liberal’s dream, saving the seat for a Democratic president to fill the vacancy. The arrogance is rather appalling. Hirono seems to think that a) Kavanaugh is finished; and b) a Democrat will beat Trump in 2020. Both are far from certain, though the latter is more in fantasyland—for now. I feel that Trump will be re-elected in 2020, but that’s for another time (via Free Beacon):

Hawaii Sen. Mazie Hirono (D.) said Democrats could keep the open seat on the Supreme Court vacant until after the 2020 election if Brett Kavanaugh's nomination collapses and Democrats regain control of the Senate in November.

Hirono pointed to the long vacancy of Antonin Scalia's former seat as a justification for holding off on confirming any nominee from President Donald Trump. When Barack Obama was president and Republicans held the Senate, Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell did not hold a vote on Obama's nominee Merrick Garland, and Hirono said Democrats could do the same if they had the Senate.

"I think we’ve had those kinds of vacancies before, and we certainly had over a one-year vacancy with Merrick Garland," Hirono told Politico Magazine. "So the world does not come to an end because we don’t fill all of the nominees."

Last week, an unearthed sexual misconduct allegation was hurled at Kavanaugh. Christine Blasey Ford accuses Kavanaugh of trying to sexually assault her when he was a drunken 17-year-old at a party. Yeah, the allegation goes back almost four decades. That’s not to say it’s not serious, but this is unprovable. There are no corroborating witnesses. There aren’t multiple Kavanaugh accusations, which occurs when a man behaving badly is exposed. The other party involved and mentioned in the alleged attempted sexual assault was Mark Judge. He doesn’t recollect anything like this ever happening. Teenage antics are now being weaponized as disqualifying factors? Yeah, and even some liberals are queasy for using a single act of poor judgment as a teenager to form the basis for opposition to any judicial nomination. There’s no evidence. Ford took a polygraph, which aren’t admissible in court due to unreliability, administered by a nameless ex-FBI agent, and retained the services of lawyer (really a Democratic operative) Debra Katz, who is hostile to Trump and his supporters. All of this reeks of a politically motivated hit job. These are clearly the actions of someone who was preparing to go public, despite this veneer of wanting to remain clouded in anonymity; that’s pure crap.

So, this thin, unverifiable accusation is enough to derail a judicial nomination? No. Not in the slightest. Sorry, and it doesn’t look good when the senator who held onto the secret letter detailing this allegation, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), sat on it for weeks until dropping it at the last moment when Kavanaugh’s confirmation seemed all but assured. Why didn’t she come forward sooner? Why wasn’t this brought up during the hearings? Maybe it’s because that’s how thin the allegation is—and because it’s so thin, and so old, and so unable to be confirmed or not, it couldn’t be brought forward. But the resist Left cannot abide by that. Scalps must be taken as tribute.

Feinstein referred the letter to the FBI—and now all hell has broken loose. She shot herself in the foot by saying in no uncertain terms that the allegation might be false. The far Left is incensed she held onto the letter for so long. Yet, that was the ploy: create chaos and force a delay. Hopefully, a long enough time until after the midterm where Democrats hope their position on the Hill will be better. I don’t know. Ford, their star witness, is AWOL. Her lawyer is also not returning calls. They want the FBI to investigate. Again, delay the game, right? Chuck Grassley (R-IA), chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said a hearing would be held on this accusation next Monday. If Ford is a no-show, they’re moving forward with the committee vote. Oh, and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), who called for a delay of the vote, which was originally slated for Thursday, said he would back his party’s push for Kavanaugh if Ford is absent next week.

Mazie, I’m not so sure that two-year delay is a forgone conclusion. Also, in light of this development with Kavanaugh, you recently told men to “shut up”…because you’re a Democrat, insufferable, and this is the default setting for all of you.

Uh, do you remember when you said the calls for disgraced now-ex-Sen. Al Franken to resign were a distraction because he was engulfed in allegations of sexual misconduct, including groping? We do. Here’s an idea, when it comes to a moment where you can grandstand and project an appalling sense of self-righteousness on this subject, perhaps, you can just shut the hell up.
