After ISIS Claims Responsibility for NYC Attack, Trump Says Terror Group Will 'Pay a Big Price'

The Islamic State on Thursday claimed responsibility for the terror attack in New York City earlier this week.

“[T]he attacker is one of the caliphate soldiers,” ISIS wrote in its weekly issue of Al-Naba newspaper, according to Reuters

Sayfullo Saipov, a Uzbek national who came to the United States through the Diversity Visa Lottery Program, plowed a rented Home Depot truck down a bike lane in Lower Manhattan.

According to the Washington Post, federal authorities said the 29-year-old told them he has been plotting his attack for a year and decided on using a truck two months ago. He also made a test run last week.

Saipov yelled “Allahu Akbar” during the attack and left a note pledging his allegiance to the Islamic State.

He’s been charged with one count of providing material support to a terror organization and one count of violence and destruction of a motor vehicle resulting in death.

President Trump tweeted out the news that ISIS claimed responsibility Friday.

“ISIS just claimed Degenerate Animal who killed, and so badly wounded, the wonderful people on the West Side, was “their soldier,” he wrote. “Based on that, the Military has hit ISIS "much harder" over the last two days. They will pay a big price for every attack on us!”
