The New Yorker on Wednesday released the cover that would have been published if Hillary Clinton had won the 2016 election. It is titled "The First" and was created by artist Malika Favre.

Of course, while Clinton won the popular vote, she fell short of then-candidate Donald Trump by more than 70 electoral votes.
She released a new book this week titled “What Happened” in an effort to explain her view of the 2016 campaign and election. In the book she blames former FBI Director James Comey, Sen. Bernie Sanders, Russian President Vladimir Putin, former President Obama, the media, Jill Stein, and sexism for contributing to her loss.
The New Yorker published the cover to promote an interview the magazine's editor, David Remnick, conducted with Clinton.
The actual cover of the magazine after the election pictured a rising brick wall created by artist Bob Staake—an obvious shot at Trump’s campaign promise to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“The election of Donald Trump to the Presidency is nothing less than a tragedy for the American republic, a tragedy for the Constitution, and a triumph for the forces, at home and abroad, of nativism, authoritarianism, misogyny, and racism,” Remnick wrote at the time.
