Obama's Charlottesville Tweet Breaks Record

Former President Obama's tweet about the events over the weekend in Charlottesville is now the most-liked tweet in the history of Twitter. At press time, the tweet has over 3.5 million likes.

The tweet, which is a first in a three-part string, features a quote by Nelson Mandela along with a picture of Obama with a group of babies looking out a window. The picture was taken in Bethesda, in 2011. The tweet has received well over a million "retweets" as well.

Here's the full three-tweet series:

These tweets marked the first time in nearly a month that the former president had tweeted.

Honestly, it's a good message that the country needs to hear, regardless of who the person doing the delivery is or what political party they represent. I agree with the quote, and I think it's far easier to love (or at least, tolerate) people than to hate them. What we saw in Charlottesville over the weekend was ugly, gross, and sad. We're better than that as a nation.
