Surprise: Latest Planned Parenthood Annual Report Shows Increase in Abortions, Government Funding

After a four-month delay from the typical December or January release date, Planned Parenthood released its annual report which shows an increase in the number of abortions they provide from the last annual report and a decrease in the amount of contraceptive services provided. The organization also got more government funding than they did the year before.

The nation’s largest abortion provider performed 328,348 abortions last year, an increase of 4,349 abortions from 323,999 abortions in their 2014-2015 report. This number translates to Planned Parenthood stopping the beating hearts of 899 unborn babies every single day last year.

In the “Message from Our Leadership” section of the report the organization boasts that “thanks to affordable access to effective contraception — we’re at the lowest abortion rate since Roe v. Wade was decided.”

An interesting claim given that the number of abortions the organization provides is up and the number of contraceptive services is down from last year’s report.

In the 2014-2015 report the number of contraception services provided was at 2,945,059 and in 2015-2016 that number went down to 2,808,815.

In January, Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards said the government should triple her organization’s government funding. The annual report shows that Planned Parenthood already got a small raise this past year with government funding increasing from $553.7 million in 2014-2015 to $554.6 million.

This is in spite of attempts to defund the organization in light of the July 2015 release of undercover videos that show Planned Parenthood officials callously discussing trafficking in the body parts of unborn babies. Most recently, the Center for Medical Progress released a video showing Planned Parenthood doctors exchanging stories about “heads that get stuck that we can’t get out” and when “an eyeball just fell into my lap, and that is gross.”
