After months of damaging national security leaks from inside the U.S. government, which came to a head Wednesday in light of the Manchester suicide bombing, Attorney General Jeff Sessions is vowing to end the spreading of classified information.
“I share the president's deep concern and talked to Home Secretary Rudd yesterday about this matter. These leaks cannot be tolerated and we will make every effort to put an end to it. We have already initiated appropriate steps to address these rampant leaks that undermine our national security,” Sessions said Thursday afternoon.
Sessions' statement comes just hours after President Trump released a statement of his own after British intelligence services stopped sharing information with U.S. intelligence services about the Manchester attack due to sensitive information being published in the press.
"The alleged leaks coming out of government agencies are deeply troubling. These leaks have been going on for a long time and my Administration will get to the bottom of this. The leaks of sensitive information pose a grave threat to our national security," the President released in a statement Thursday morning. "I am asking the Department of Justice and other relevant agencies to launch a complete review of this matter, and if appropriate, the culprit should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
Before heading to the NATO meeting in Brussels Thursday, British Prime Minister Theresa May released a video message condemning the leaks and warning the President they must stop.
