Despite Invite, Comey Will Not Appear Before Senate Intelligence Committee Next Week

Despite an invitation, James Comey, the outgoing FBI director, will not appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee next week, according to Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA).

Committee ranking member Mark Warner (D-Va.) told MSNBC on Friday afternoon that Comey would not be appearing, but he hoped to have him soon. The invitation had been extended for Tuesday, a week after Trump's shocking announcement that he was firing the director.

President Trump fired Comey this week following the recommendations of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Yet, Trump has claimed he was going to fire him regardless, having thought about his removal every day since the election

On Friday, Trump threatened Comey that if he leaks any information to the press, he should beware of any White House recordings. In an interview with NBC's Lester Holt, the president was insistent that Comey told him in those conversations that he was not the center of any investigation involving Russia.

Warner hopes to bring Comey before the committee in due time to hear his side of the story.
