Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) plans to make history this week by being the first sitting senator to testify against a colleague in a confirmation hearing for a presidential cabinet. The New Jersey senator will speak out against Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) on Capitol Hill to oppose his nomination for attorney general.
That makes this flashback pretty awkward. Last February, at a ceremony to recognize the 1965 Voting Rights Marches Foot Soldiers, Booker talked about how proud he was to work with Sessions on the civil rights award.
“I am humbled to be able to participate here and pay tribute to some of the extraordinary Americans whose footsteps paved the way for me and my generation," Booker said at the time. "I feel blessed and honored to have partnered with Senator Sessions in being the Senate sponsors of this important award.”
His memory can’t be that bad.
In addition to Booker's kind words last year about Sessions' civil rights efforts, countless other African-American leaders have endorsed Sessions for the same reason.
