Senate Democrats elected their new leadership Wednesday morning. As expected, Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York will be the new Senate Minority Leader, succeeding Harry Reid. A host of other leadership appointments also took place.
A sign that his influence in the Democratic Party is increasing, Sen. Bernie Sanders was elected as the new Outreach Chair for Senate Democrats. Sanders will lead a committee that will engage in dialogue with “leaders across the country” in an effort to promote their caucus’ agenda.

Update: Despite accepting this new leadership post, Sanders (I-VT) is still declining to identify as a Democrat.
