Speaking to a room full of supporters and campaign staff in New York City Wednesday, Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton congratulated rival Republican Donald Trump on his White House victory.
"I still believe in America," Clinton said with former President Bill Clinton and Senator Tim Kaine by her side. "Donald Trump will be our president and we owe him an open mind and a chance to lead."
"This loss hurts, but please never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it," Clinton said. “We must accept this result, and then look to the future."
Wednesday morning Clinton had secured 228 electoral votes, falling far short of the 270 needed to win the presidency. Breaking down the blue wall, Trump secured 279.
"Nothing has made me prouder than to be your champion," she said.
