Caitlyn Jenner Speaks at "Big Tent Brunch"; Urges Republicans to Embrace LGBT Community

Speaking at the American Unity Fund's "Big Tent Brunch," Olympic gold medalist-turned-reality-star Caitlyn Jenner spoke about her experiences coming out as both trans and Republican, and how she'd like to see the party evolve in the future.

Jenner (née Bruce), who came out as transgender in an interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer, initially generated more surprise when she also revealed in the interview that she was a conservative Republican. Jenner had also expressed support for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) during the Republican primary.

"It was easy to come out as trans. It was harder to come out as a Republican," Jenner said to laughter at the brunch.

Despite her party loyalty, Jenner was not fond of efforts by Republicans to pass bills regarding bathroom usage. Jenner pointed out that more Republican politicians have been arrested for sexual misconduct in bathrooms than trans people have, and joked that perhaps the nation needs a law prohibiting politicians from bathrooms.
