Bill Bratton, the NYPD commissioner, has joined the chorus of voices who are choosing to blame the horrid Orlando massacre on the type of firearm the killer used.
“The concern is that they’re occurring much more frequently and are becoming much more deadly because of the type weapons being used,” Bratton said, calling assault rifles “weapons of war.”
Later, the commissioner did admit the killer was inspired by ISIS (it's hard to deny the evidence) but he followed it up by noting “there were also other things going on in that young man’s life.”
Liberal lawmakers and pundits have been obsessed with talking about the weapons Omar Mateen chose to use in his attack instead of his radical Islamic ideology. While they should be focusing on how to combat the deadly belief system, they are wasting time drafting gun control legislation that is bound to go nowhere.
Bratton also noted that although his police department is stepping up preparation in the face of new and growing terror threats, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton admitted on Monday that another attack on the city is unavoidable.
“The reality is … in this world we live in, it’s not a matter of if, it’s always going to be a matter of when,” Bratton said on John Catsimatidis’s “The Cats Roundtable” radio show in a segment that aired Sunday.
Tensions are particularly high this week as the city prepares for its annual gay pride parade on Sunday.
