The White House’s first-ever State of Women summit on Tuesday featured plenty of Hillary Clinton cheerleaders. President Obama smiled that he would soon hand off the presidency to a "really good successor" and Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said she liked the sound of “Madam President,” among other hints. Oprah, who hosted a discussion with First Lady Michelle Obama Tuesday evening, just officially endorsed Clinton.
A little bit of context makes these figures' Hillary support a bit awkward.
The Clinton Foundation, recent reports reveal, has a history of financial ties to regimes that have horrible human rights records - particularly in regards to the treatment of women.
The RNC exposed the hypocrisy in a new statement on Wednesday, referencing just a few of the nations the Clintons have worked with that treat women as inferior.
In Saudi Arabia (between $10 million and $25 million given), “Violence against women, trafficking in persons, and discrimination on the basis of gender, religion, sect, race, and ethnicity were common.” The government even beheaded a man accused of “practicing witchcraft and sorcery.”
In Kuwait (between $5 million and $10 million given), the State Department found “Women did not enjoy equal rights. Worker rights were limited, and expatriate workers were subject to severe limitations of rights and discrimination as well.”
In Qatar (between $1 million and $5 million given), the State Department found “legal, institutional, and cultural discrimination against women limited their participation in society and that "authorities severely restricted worker rights, especially for foreign laborers and domestic servants.”
GOP nominee Donald Trump also reminded voters about the unfortunate Clinton Foundation ties during a speech in Atlanta on Wednesday.
Her foundation has taken millions of dollars from countries that want to “enslave women,” Trump said.
Feminists might want to take a closer look at the Clinton Foundation before they continue to chant Hillary's name.
