Oklahoma Governor Vetoes Bill Making Abortion a Felony

Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin (R) has vetoed a bill that would make abortion a felony. Fallin cited the "vague" nature of the bill as well as the fact that it's likely unconstitutional as reasons why she vetoed it. She also noted that she had signed 18 pro-life bills during her time as governor--but she did not think that this one would be effective in overturning Roe v. Wade.

Fallin is correct in this veto. This bill was certainly going to get overturned if passed into law, and it was not well-written or well-defined. It was not an effective or appropriate piece of legislation. There's no questioning Fallin's pro-life credentials: this just wasn't a good bill.
