Donald Trump has long promised to ‘make America great again’ on the campaign trail, but according to a new poll, more Americans actually think Hillary Clinton would have greater success doing so.
When asked in a new Associated Press-GfK poll which of the two candidates would do the best job “making America great,” more Americans, 33 percent, chose Clinton, compared to 28 percent who said Trump.
But in reality, voters didn’t have all that much confidence in either candidate. Thirty percent said they trusted neither to make that happen.
Voters also favored Clinton on a host of other issues, including foreign and domestic policy, immigration, health care, gender equality issues, international trade, and working with Congress.
She has the largest advantage over Trump in terms of dealing with gender equality issues, with 55 percent of Americans saying they trust her and just 12 percent supporting Trump on the issue.
She also tops Trump on national security, 37 to 31 percent, pollsters found.
The candidates are separated by only 3 points on the economy, however, with Clinton getting the nod, 38 to 35 percent. Voters often rank the economy as one of the top issues in the country.
Of those surveyed, only 20 percent of respondents said Clinton represents their own views very well, while 23 percent said she represents their views somewhat well.
For Trump, just 15 percent of those surveyed said he represents their views very well and 14 percent said somewhat well.
Hillary Clinton currently holds a double-digit lead on average over Trump, according to polling data compiled by Real Clear Politics.
