NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre has issued a direct challenge to President Obama: Let's debate, one-on-one. That's right, no "town hall," just a debate about gun rights, crime and gun control.
"The American people know a liar when they see one," LaPierre said in a video released yesterday by the NRA. "He has proven time and time again to be unworthy of our trust."
"Mr. President, pre-screened questions that lead to your long winded answers are anything but an honest dialogue. But I'll tell you what, I'll meet you for a one-on-one, one hour debate with a mutually agreed upon moderator on any network that will take it," LaPierre said. "No pre-screened questions and no gas bag answers. Americans will judge for themselves who they trust and who to believe on this issue. You, or the NRA. Let's see if you're game for fair debate."
I assume the White House will issue a response to the challenge today during the daily press briefing.
