As President Obama attends the UN conference on climate change in Paris, discussing how he, and the rest of the world, can save the human race from total devastation from the non-threat of global warming; like-minded folks in America’s newsrooms will undoubtedly paint a narrative akin to what we saw in the outrageous 2004 film The Day After Tomorrow. In that film, melting polar ice pretty much ruins everyone’s day, but that’s not the case. In fact, earlier in November, NASA discovered that Antarctica gained more ice than it lost. It’s a significant find, given that scientists might have to re-evaluate the causes of the rise in sea levels because this hypothesis is starting to fray.
The Media Research Center went through the transcripts of the big three–ABC, NBC, and CBS–from November 4-11 and found they ignored the NASA studies showing growth in Antarctic ice. Of course, they opted for the ice is melting/all is lost narrative:
Between October 2014 and November 2015, NASA released two separate studies, both showing that ice in Antarctica is growing faster than it is melting. In May 2015, Antarctic ice was at a record high level. Yet between Nov. 4, 2014 and Nov. 11, 2015, the broadcast network’s evening news shows never mentioned either study.During that same time however, the broadcast network’s evening news shows specifically mentioned melting ice in the Arctic 12 different times. All of those were on CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News. But additional stories on all three evening shows implied that melting was occurring in polar regions because of global warming or climate change.

In August, all three networks also turned to President Barack Obama to help draw attention to polar melting. On Aug. 3, ABC and NBC both aired Obama’s “personal plea” to cut emissions. Obama said, “I don’t want my grandkids not to be able to swim in Hawaii or not to be able to climb a mountain and see a glacier because we didn’t do something about it.” Not to be outdone, CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley hyped the climate change focus of Obama’s trip to Alaska on Aug. 31, saying, “Tonight as the president visits Alaska, we’ll take you to the Portage Glacier to show you the dramatic effects of climate change.” The next night Pelley continued the same refrain saying, “The president hiked today to Alaska’s Exit Glacier, which is melting. A sign marks where it stood in 1951. It shrunk a quarter of a mile. Proof, according to the president, that time is running out to reverse climate change.”
Not exactly, Mr. President. The Exit Glacier starting receding…in 1815.
Global warming is wreaking mayhem on the Antarctic research stations by creating so much ice that resupply ships have had trouble reaching some of the outposts. This horrible threat to humanity has increased the polar ice cap by 533,000 square miles; it was supposed to vanish by 2013.

As for the wild weather global warming is supposed to devastate us with, we’ve seen the quietest hurricane season in three decades, and the calmest tornado season in six decades. The CIA thinks global warming is such a national security priority that they scrapped their climate research project on it. After all, the UK Meteorological Office discovered that Earth’s global temperatures had remained stagnate for the past 16 years in 2012.
Nevertheless, Obama thinks climate change is a national security priority that is similar in scope to the threat we face from the Islamic State. Sen. Bernie Sanders, a 2016 candidate for the Democratic nomination for president, said in the most recent debate that global warming is “directly related to the growth of terrorism.” Even the left-leaning PolitiFact rated that as mostly false.
