After Blasting McConnell For Returning To DC, Grimes Heads To Fundraiser...In DC

Yesterday, Sen. Mitch McConnell’s Democratic challenger, Alison Lundergan Grimes, blasted him for returning to work in Washington D.C. Grimes is starting to fall behind in the polls, with the New York Times basically saying that McConnell’s re-election is the most probable outcome come Election Day. Nevertheless, it’s beyond desperate that Grimes is attacking McConnell, who is part of the GOP leadership (he sort of has to come back), for returning to D.C. to work, while she also heads off to raise money…in D.C.

The new web ad blasting McConnell for doing his job labeled the Senate Minority Leader as scandal-ridden, which alludes to the resignation of McConnell’s campaign manager, Jesse Benton, over allegations that he was involved in bribing an Iowa State Senator to switch allegiances from Rep. Michele Bachmann to Ron Paul in the 2012 primaries (via Roll Call):

Today [Sept. 8], scandal-ridden Mitch McConnell is running back to Washington, DC, in an attempt to dodge the tough questions he faces back home. In a new web ad released Monday, Alison for Kentucky holds McConnell accountable for his refusal to answer to the people of Kentucky,” the Lundergan Grimes campaign said in announcing the video

The message came with the subject line: “NEW WEB AD: McConnell Flees To DC To Dodge Tough Questions Back Home.”

Ms. Grimes’ excursion into D.C. will see her benefit from two fundraisers. One will be hosted tonight, with a $2,600 a head gathering to fill her coffers hosted by Maryland Sens. Barbara Mikulski, Ben Cardin, and Rep. Chris Van Hollen at the Drezner home, according to Politico:

Three liberal Maryland Democrats — Sens. Barbara Mikulski, Ben Cardin and Rep. Chris Van Hollen — will headline a Tuesday evening fundraiser for Grimes in Potomac, Md., where attendees are asked to pony up as much as $2,600 each to attend. The event is at the home of Lora and Jeff Drezner, who is the founder of a medical education company Clinical Care Options.

The next day, the Grimes campaign is hosting a Wednesday reception at a Capitol Hill townhouse for the Democratic candidate, according to an invitation obtained by POLITICO.

The two fundraisers come at a critical juncture for the Kentucky Democrat. Several recent polls have shown McConnell maintaining a steady lead, including an NBC-Marist poll released over the weekend that had the GOP leader up by eight points.

The home of Lora and Jeff Drezner has served as the epicenter to raise some serious cash for Democrats. Last May, President Obama headlined a fundraiser at their home for House Democrats; tickets were between $10,00o-32,400. Mr. Drezner called Obamacare a “wild success” at the fundraiser.

Ms. Grimes has slammed McConnell for leaving Kentucky, avoiding tough questions to return to work in Washington, while she leaves Kentucky and her job as Kentucky Secretary of State to raise money…in Washington. The lack of self-awareness is appalling.
