American Idol's Clay Aiken Running for Congress

With rumors stirring yesterday about Sandra Fluke and her potential campaign for Congress, it is now open season for a bunch of non-political candidates to make their way on to the public stage. One of the newest political hopefuls is American Idol runner up, Clay Aiken.

Aiken announced early this morning that he will be seeking the Democratic nomination in the 2nd congressional district of North Carolina. If chosen as the nominee, he would then be taking on incumbent Republican Representative Renee Ellmers.

In a video he released on his campaign website, Aiken says, "I am not a politician. I never want to be one. But I do want to bring back, at least to my corner of North Carolina, the idea that someone can go to Washington to represent all the people, whether they voted for you or not."

Well, I am sorry to break it to you Mr. Aiken, but if you are running a political campaign, you are going to be considered a politician. His big name is certainly one thing that will get him attention in this race, but it doesn’t really look like the GOP is going to have to worry here.

This district is a solid red area and Mitt Romney won this district handily in 2012. This may now be a high profile election, but not one that Republicans need to be concerned about. I guess things in Hollywood weren’t working out so well for Clay, and he needed to find a new project.
