Bill De Blasio Weighed In On FBI Director's Firing. He Probably Should Have Kept His Mouth Shut

Of course, everyone took to social media, blogs, Facebook, and other platforms to debate and discuss the firing of FBI Director James Comey. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio weighed in as well, but he probably should have kept quiet since he embarrassed himself with his lack of history. He tweeted last night, “The last president to do something like this was Richard Nixon. It didn't end well...” There’s only one problem: the late President Richard Nixon never fired the director of the FBI, as confirmed by the Nixon Presidential Library.

Nixon fired special prosecutor Archibald Cox, but Mr. Comey was not a special prosecutor. Nixon fired Cox to try and impede an investigation into the Watergate break-in. Trump has zero evidence lined up against him concerning the allegation that his campaign colluded with the Russians during the 2016 cycle. Nixon was caught on tape with his chief of staff, H.R. Haldeman, laying out the cover-up for Watergate. There’s not smoking gun for Trump, and even Senate Democrats are coming to terms that no solid evidence corroborating collusion will be found. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, said that there is no definitive proof of collusion. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) also admitted that there is no evidence of collusion after visiting CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia for a briefing on the matter.

This isn’t Watergate. This isn’t Nixonian. Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Mark Warner (D-VA) expect Mr. Comey to give testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on the Trump-Russia probe should it become necessary. Comey’s firing isn’t impeding the investigation. It still goes on as usual, but please keep serving those hot takes, guys.
