'FALSE': DHS Calls Out Newsweek Story About Arrest of Criminal Alien

As we’re seeing with nearly every story about an arrest or deportation of a criminal alien, the facts are often buried if revealed at all. From the “Maryland father” to the “Georgetown scholar” and “undocumented grandmother,” most folks reading headlines or glancing at news reports are getting either a sanitized and/or sympathetic view of the subject. Sometimes, however, they’re getting an outright false version of events, as was the recent case with a Newsweek report about the arrest of criminal illegal alien Albino Teodores Mandujano, the Department of Homeland Security said.

“Children Left Behind Inside Truck After ICE Detains Father at Gas Station,” the headline read.

Federal immigration authorities left behind two children inside a truck after detaining the father, an advocacy group has claimed.

805 UndocuFund, a coalition of nonprofit organizations supporting immigrants in the Central Coast of California, said that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehended a man at the Sinclair gas station located at 1050 South Ventura Road in Oxnard on May 4 at 9:30 a.m.

Juan Conches, a gas station attendant and witness, shared his account of the alleged arrest on 805 UndocuFund's Instagram page in a post on May 5.

"They arrested someone," Conches said. "They left the children inside the truck." (Newsweek)

DHS vehemently denied the reporting.

"This is FALSE," DHS said in response to Newsweek. "ICE agents arrested criminal illegal alien Albino Teodores Mandujano. His 19-year-old son took possession of his vehicle. ICE officers even offered to move the vehicle to a better location. Additionally, ICE allowed Mandujano to make a telephone call to ensure the vehicle and his son arrived safely back at his home.

"Albino Teodores Mandujano’s criminal record includes a conviction for fighting in a public place and an arrest for driving under the influence. This individual entered our country illegal at least THREE times," the statement continued.

"Parents, who are here illegally, can take control of their departure. Through the CBP Home App— the Trump Administration is giving parents illegally in the country a chance to take full control of their departure and self-deport, with the potential ability to return the legal, right way and come back to live the American dream," DHS said.
