With the New York primary less than a week away, Donald Trump, who’s already way ahead in the Empire State’s polling, got another boost: an endorsement from the New York Post.
“Trump has electrified the public, drawing millions of new voters to the polls and inspiring people who’d given up on ever again having a candidate who’d fight for them,” the paper writes. “That’s the work of the Donald Trump we know — a New Yorker, born and bred.”
Of course, the paper acknowledges that he’s a “rookie candidate” who needs to improve on his policy positions, which at times are overly simplistic or downright terrible ideas. His manner, they also note, needs to become more presidential.
Nonetheless, the Post praises Trump for his entrepreneurialism, drive, and ability to get things done.
“Trump is now an imperfect messenger carrying a vital message,” the paper writes. “But he reflects the best of “New York values” — and offers the best hope for all Americans who rightly feel betrayed by the political class.”
This, of course, an obvious shot at Sen. Ted Cruz who’s been hammered in the state over his “New York values” comment.
“He has the potential — the skills, the know-how, the values — to live up to his campaign slogan: to make America great again,” the paper continues. “For those reasons, The Post today endorses Donald Trump in the GOP primary.”
