UPDATE: Well, this story just got a little weirder. The Department of Homeland Security's Twitter account tweeted that there had not yet been any short of announcement about Sheriff Clarke's purported position.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke has just accepted a role in the Department of Homeland Security.

"I'm both honored and humbled to be a appointed to this position," Clarke told a Wisconsin radio station Wednesday.

Clarke, a frequent Fox News contributor, has been branded a conservative hero for his comments on race, particularly his criticism for the Black Lives Matter movement, and his advocacy for gun rights. He was one of few African-American speakers to endorse Donald Trump at the 2016 Republican National Convention.

Before confirming his DHS role, Clarke was rumored as a potential candidate to replace James Comey as the director of the FBI. He is expected to start at the DHS in June.
