Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting survivor David Hogg's family home was raided by a SWAT team on Tuesday morning. The home was "swatted" after the Coral Springs Police Department received a call about a hostage being held inside the Hogg's home, WPLG-TV reported.
Hogg was not home when the raid took place. He was in Washington, D.C. receiving the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights award.
The phone call turned out to be a hoax.
"I think it's really a distraction from what we're trying to fix here, which is the massive gun-violence epidemic in this country," Hogg told WPLG.
"Swatting" is generally completed by computer hackers who are skilled with various types of technology. They make these false reports of a serious crime in progress, which result in police using heavy force on unsuspecting people.
