Rumors have been swirling that Donald Trump Jr. will be following in his father’s footsteps and running for Governor of New York next year.
However, the president’s eldest son quieted the whispers this week, telling the Associated Press, “I am not running in 2018.”
It sounds like a bid for New York City Mayor is off the table, as well. But that doesn’t mean Trump Jr. has completely abandoned the idea of running for office one day. The 39-year-old admitted he has become rather enthralled with politics since his father took up residence in the White House.
Not to mention, he's already gained the support of some New York Republicans.
“He’d make a very strong candidate,” Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin told the Wall Street Journal. “Certainly, he has name recognition and fundraising ability.”
But for now, it seems Trump is content running the family business with his brother Eric.
"Maybe someday," Trump told the Associated Press. "It's not something I'm doing now. But you never know, it's fascinating stuff.”
Instead, his sister Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner are the ones who have chosen to play their hands at politics. Both have taken unprecedented roles in the current administration, much to Left's dismay.
Similarly, there has been talk that Hillary Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea, was considering a political run in New York. She, too, has shot down the rumors, saying she is not considering a run for public office…yet.
And good thing. It’s unlikely America is ready for another Trump vs. Clinton election, even if it is contained to New York.
