United States Pardon Attorney Ed Martin will be leaving the Trump administration to legally assist in the upcoming midterm elections, as well as the 2028 presidential election.
The president thanked Martin, who also served in other key administration roles, for his service on Friday afternoon.
“Ed Martin has been with me from the very beginning, and done an incredible job as an Attorney, Director of the Weaponization Working Group, and the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Martin was Washington, D.C.'s interim federal attorney from the start of Trump's second term until mid-May, and he was succeeded by United States Attorney Jeanine Pirro, who now holds the role in a Senate-confirmed capacity.
“Ed is now leaving to go outside to fight Legal Battles for the upcoming Midterm Election, and the Presidential Election of 2028. I know he will do an outstanding job, ensure Free, Fair, and Honest Elections, and strongly advance our Constitutional Rights. Good luck Ed!” he continued.
“Proud to serve. Fight Fight Fight,” Martin posted to X on Friday in response to the president’s announcement.
He is one of a handful of noteworthy departures from the administration in recent weeks, as White House legislative affairs director James Braid and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will also be leaving their positions soon. Leavitt will remain in Trump’s orbit outside the White House, as speculation swirls about who will take her place in the briefing room.
