"La Llorona," AKA "The Weeping Woman," has haunted children's dreams for years in Latin America. Legend has it that La Llorona drowned her three children in a fit of jealousy and threw herself in a river after finding her husband with another woman. Now, she returns to haunt other people's children. The film adaptation of the terrifying tale, The Curse of La Llorona, from Warner Bros. Pictures, is coming to theaters this month. It's directed by Michael Chaves and produced by Gary Dauberman, Emile Gladstone, and James Wan, of The Conjuring franchise. While the plot is designed to scare audiences and focuses heavily on the supernatural, the cast and crew explain in a new feature that faith plays a major role in combatting those evil forces.
In the clip you'll find that rosaries and crosses feature strongly in the film, while a priest is of major assistance to main character Anna Garcia, played by veteran actress Linda Cardellini, who is desperate to protect her children from the murderous apparition.
Behind the scenes and in between takes, Fr. Martin Rodriguez lit candles and said prayers over the set, which the cast welcomed."A priest came by to bless the set which is important because you have to be careful when you're dealing with another world, when you're dealing with different realms, dealing with different energies," explained Raymond Cruz, who plays Rafael Olvera in the film.
"So the fact that we have faith based Christianity in the film it makes for a strong, powerful defense against this evil presence."
The Curse of La Llorona is in theaters Friday, April 19.
