Long time "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek on Wednesday announced he has stage four pancreatic cancer. Trebek made the announcement in a video announcement posted to the official "Jeopard!" Twitter page.

"Now, normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I'm going to fight this. And I'm going to keep working and with the love and support of my family and friends -- and with the help of your prayers also -- I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease," he said.

Trebek tried to make light of the situation by reminding viewers he's under contract and must continue on.

"Truth told, I have to because under the terms of my contract, I have to host 'Jeopardy' for three more years. So help me. Keep the faith, and we'll win. We'll get it done."

The 78-year-old has hosted the game show since 1984. Before that, Trebek hosted "Wheel of Fortune," TMZ reported.

Last year, Trebek contemplated retiring but signed a contract extension through the 2021-2022 season.

This is a breaking news story. As more information comes in this post will be updated.
