WASHINGTON—House Democrats took no action Tuesday to punish Rep. Anthony Weiner for a scandal over sexually charged messages sent to women he met online. Some voiced hope the congressman's wife may convince him to heed the call of party leaders to resign.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi emerged from a closed meeting of the House Democratic caucus at the Capitol to repeat her belief that the New York Democrat should quit. House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) on Tuesday added his voice to those saying Mr. Weiner should resign.
