1. Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, released a video early Monday morning that attacks President Obama’s handling of the economy by seizing on a phrase he used during a speech: that “there are always going to be bumps on the road to recovery.” The video begins with about two dozen people laying down in the middle of what looks like a desolate, rural road. Slowly, each one stands up, looks into the camera, and says, “I’m an American, not a bump in the road.” Each one holds up a small, paper sign that says their name, occupation and “Stands with Mitt.” The ad is a searing reminder of what Mr. Romney hopes to make the principal issue in the 2012 race — the economy’s struggle to produce jobs. Mr. Obama, mindful of that, is headed to North Carolina on Monday for the latest in a series of events designed to highlight his administration’s efforts to create more jobs.
