OPINION

The Internet is a Great Truth Detector

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Paul Ryan put out a budget that Senate Democrats immediately criticized. I don’t get it. Shouldn’t Senate Democrats put out their own budget before they criticize someone else’s?

President Obama gave a speech on energy in front of a bunch of solar panels yesterday. I don’t get it. He mislead the American public on oil prices, and the amount of oil we have at our disposal. I get the chance to speak with a lot of energy and mining CEO’s. They dont’ get it either. Listen to the economics behind the answers these CEO’s give. They are enlightening when you interpret the larger fight between environmentalists and realists.

Solar and wind energy is a nice thought. It’s relatively useless as a main power or reliable power generator. I don’t get why we can’t see countries like Germany and Spain go broke over subsidies on solar and think the same won’t happen here. As Newt Gingrich said yesterday, Obama has given more to Solyndra and other solar boondoggles than he has in tax breaks for oil companies. The other thing people deride is the fact that America is exporting gasoline when prices are going up here. Why? Because of the stupid ethanol mandates. I don’t get why we have those either.

I do get why Obama is trying to take credit for the small spur of the Keystone pipeline that will be built without his approval, but I don’t get why he thinks he can get away with it. The internet is a great truth detector.

I don’t get that Republican candidates tout freedom when people like Rick Santorum lead with issues that make Americans less free. Really, if gay marriage was legal in every state of the US is it going to affect your life? Santorum treats them like lepers.

I don’t get why Republicans are so worried about abortion as a lead issue. Yes, it was settled incorrectly. It’s a state’s rights issue. Yes, it’s horrific, and I think it is killing human life. However, the genie is out of the bottle. Why don’t we just end public funding for it? Then create economic incentives that reflect choosing life over death and leave it at that? If we had a great economy I bet there would be less abortions.

I don’t get why Republicans need a perfect candidate for President. It’s as if there is some mold somewhere in a factory and we can roll them off assembly lines. Isn’t there room for shades of gray on some conservative issues? Isn’t is a good idea to debate them a little bit? Is the idea of four more years of Obama more palatable to you than four more years of any of the four Republicans that are left? I don’t get why anyone that is in the 10-15% vehemently foaming at the mouth over a Romney candidacy would stay home in November given the alternative. Change happens slowly. Government isn’t the internet.

I don’t get why people think if we spend more money on a failing school system we will get better results. It’s not our kids that are dumb. It’s the way we educate them. Disbanding teachers unions would be a huge step forward-but getting rid of the bureaucracy that oversees them might be a better place to start.

I think that I will be doing a lot of I Don’t Get from now on. What don’t you get?
