The Fathomless Funds of the Treasury

“They [Congress] seemed, some little while ago to be at a loss for objects whereon to throw away the supposed fathomless funds of the treasury.” -Thomas Jefferson

That was over 200 years ago, folks. I wonder what Mr. Jefferson would think of our Congress today.

Well, no, I don’t wonder what he would say, because he told us:

“I place economy among the first and most important virtues and public debt as the greatest dangers to be feared. To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. If we run into such debts, we must be taxed in our meat and drink, in our necessities and in our comforts, in our labor and in our amusements. If we can prevent the government from wasting the labor of the people under the pretense of caring for them, they will be happy.”

I’ve made this point countless times before, but I’m bucking against a Category 5 hurricane that never stops coming. Our Founding Fathers were brilliant men, and most of what they said was right on the mark. Prophetic, as you can see from the Jefferson quotes above. But yet, not prophetic because they based their ideas on the eternal principles, the “eternal constitution of things” in Edmund Burke’s term, verities established by God before He even created the universe, actually, truths that flow from the very nature of God. He didn’t create them; they are just part of His being.

And thus, when people live by those principles, they can be happy and secure. James Madison said, “The future and success of America is not in this Constitution, but in the laws of God upon which this Constitution is founded.” We did ok for a while (though 200 years is nothing in human history) until we gave our educational system over to atheistic, godless, Marxist leftists who deny everything about the true nature of God, mankind, and existence. They, as we all know, hate our Founding Fathers, and this is the very reason why—our Founders believed in those eternal principles, truths that are just as valid now as they were when spoken by those great men.

Folks, America has had enough problems even when we made a half-hearted attempt to be guided by our Founders' words. Now that half the country hates God, and our Congress pays absolutely no attention to the Constitution or “the laws of God upon which this Constitution is founded,” then America is, as we all should see, in serious moral decline. And patching that moral decline with foreign ventures, military escapades, and fathomless borrowed money only fools the naïve and will not save us in the end.

As Jefferson said—and look how true his words are—“We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt.” Have they done that? Can you say “$39 trillion”? “To preserve our liberty,” we mustn’t allow that to happen.

Do they tax us “in our meat and drink, in our necessities and in our comforts, in our labor and in our amusements”? Indubitably. And, as a result, we are less and less free. You see, folks, every single dime government takes from me is one dime less free I am. Government gets to spend it, not me. I become increasingly a slave. I give government the earnings of my labor. Isn’t that what slaves did, give to their masters the product of their work? “If we can prevent the government from wasting the labor of the people, under the pretense of caring for them, they will be happy.” How many billions—trillions—of our dollars are wasted by government? Every day we read stories of fraud, abuse, waste—DOGE didn’t even touch the hem of the garment, and where are they now? The military-industrial complex loves wars and is constantly spanning the globe, looking for new ones to throw our hard-earned money at. And politicians, on both sides of the aisle, dance merrily to their tune. The Democrats love the war in Ukraine, RINOs such as Lindsey Graham love any war we can spend money on, and the military-industrial complex soaks up our hard-earned money. Less money in our pockets. Less freedom for the American people. Our Founders warned us, and we pay no attention whatsoever.

And, of course, the lazy, slothful parasites, not only in America, but from all over the world, love the government “wasting the labor of the people, under the pretense of caring for them.” If you have no virtue or conscience, why work if somebody else is forced to provide for you? California, apparently, is getting ready to spend its taxpayers’ money on breast transplants for homeless, transgender illegal aliens. How did America get into such a putrid condition to let this kind of depravity happen? It’s sick. And evil.

But politicians—the scourge of the earth—love it, of course. They can buy our votes with our own money. Money is power, and they know that lesson better than any other. And so, the “fathomless funds of the treasury” in Thomas Jefferson’s early 19th century have only become an eternal, bottomless pit in the 21st. And our congressmen don’t care one whit, because it keeps them in power. “Tax the rich!” as if that bit of stupidity will solve the problem instead of destroying the economy. But it sounds good to people who want other people’s money. But, “the government you elect is the government you deserve.” Jefferson said that, too.

Do you want to destroy democracy? James Madison told us how to do it, saying, “Armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few.” Exactly what the Deep State is doing to the country. Sir Tytler said that democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy. America is dying that slow death today, and our leaders certainly are too corrupt to care.

Jefferson warned us.
