My Days of Not Taking CNN Seriously Are Coming to a Middle

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Back during the Gulf War, we were all glued to CNN.

The reporting was from inside Baghdad, and no one else was there, which gave them reporting that no one else had. It was a golden time for the cable network.

However, it didn't take long for CNN to nosedive into the realm of absolute stupidity, and it's all driven not by a lack of on-air talent or competition, but the fact that apparently everyone who makes any kind of important call there is a complete and total idiot.

We've seen countless examples over the years, and it would take a book to outline them, but there are plenty of them to look at and mock the network, especially as it continues to try to pretend it's really just a neutral outlet for the truth, despite the outright fabrications it's produced.

For me, the most egregious example I've seen comes not so much from its on-air propaganda, but from its website.

There, CNN tries to pretend that enforcing immigration laws and deporting illegal aliens is somehow the same thing as herding Japanese-Americans into internment camps during World War II.

Yes, there's more nuance on the internment camp issue than most people seem to understand – including a couple of Japanese-Americans in Hawaii helping a downed Japanese pilot even after they learned about Pearl Harbor – but that doesn't exactly excuse anything. More than 100,000 American citizens were put into camps simply because of their ethnicity.

It was wrong.

But enforcing immigration laws, and having to do so with a massive show of federal law enforcement in cities that refused to do their part in dealing with illegal aliens invading our country, isn't remotely the same thing.

Oh, I get the attempt here. "These were both just regular folks trying to live their lives before the big, bad feds showed up and took them out of their homes."

The difference is that the Japanese-Americans were actually Americans. They deserved due process, and they didn't get it – at the hands of the Democratic Party's hero, FDR, by the way – but illegal aliens are just that, illegal aliens. They're not here legally. They're not American citizens.

Instead, they broke the law from the start, and while I'm willing to listen to some make the case that they should get some degree of due process, the reality is that a deportation order is just that.

The Left created a network of sanctuary cities, then opened the flood gates to allow illegal aliens to enter this country in droves, and we all know it's because they want to inflate the numbers of sanctuary cities and states in the upcoming census, thus giving blue regions far more power than they should get, all without having to actually appease as many of the voters. They just need the illegals to keep coming in so the numbers stay high.

President Trump is simply enforcing laws that have been on the books for decades.

That's nothing like FDR rounding up Americans and tossing them into camps simply because they were of Japanese heritage.

Anyone who thinks these two things are remotely similar is too stupid to be allowed to vote, but that's kind of what CNN and the leftist media count on. They want to make enforcing immigration laws look like the worst actions of the past, all because they know they can't actually say, "Look, these violent illegal aliens are great for America because they commit the crimes Americans won't!" Well, they kind of can, but it won't do them any good.

So, they find some leftists who will make everything about how evil Trump is, pretend it's the exact same thing as something some Democrat in history did – and yeah, it's almost always something a Democrat did – and count on the American people to be too stupid to recognize the difference.

Unfortunately for us all, CNN is right about far too many of our fellow countrymen and women.
