They Can Hate Israel All They Want

A meeting of the new Jew haters produced little light.

Barack Obama was the king of strawmen. Maybe because he was so skinny, he felt a kindred spirit with all of the straw folks he created. I remember during the ridiculous debate about the agreement with Iran, he blurted out that it was either his agreement or war. He threw out all other options, like continued sanctions or increased international isolation. Since war was supposed to scare everybody, and the president must be right, the only option became the horrible agreement that allowed Iran to enrich uranium to 60 percent.

Megyn Kelly and Tucker Carlson recently had a heart-to-heart. I didn't watch it, but I did see some clips to show how ridiculous their conversation was. Megyn Kelly claimed that she was being brainwashed by pro-Israel sources and that she needed to find alternatives. Wow, it isn't so hard, especially for a 20-year news veteran. The Israeli newspaper, Ha'aretz, is virulently anti-Israel, as are the BBC, The New York Times, and Washington Post. It's so hard to find pro-Hamas/anti-Israel information? She didn't catch the weekly protests against Bibi Netanyahu, his policies, and the war? There are endless Jewish and Israeli leftists who routinely slander Israel and right-leaning parties like those in Bibi's government. She claimed that she just needed to start at "square one" to start to understand what really happened in Gaza. "Both sides" were lying to her, the former Fox News and NBC star claimed.

The problem with fake news is not that people claim that Donald Trump was born on Mars. The problem is that people take facts and information and distort them or change the weight of key points so as to end up with the outcome they desire. On what did Israel lie? Israel—and Hamas for that matter—laid out exactly what happened on October 7, 2023, in southern Israel. The world refused to believe what it did not want to believe. As to the war-fighting, I know of nothing that Israel is hiding. Hamas, on the other hand, invented a genocide and starvation yarn for its benefit. And of course, the world gobbled it up. I remember Carlson and his buddy Piers Morgan decrying Israel's killing of children. Of course, there was no such thing. If a 15-year-old is a member of Hamas and has a rifle, then he is subject to kinetic destruction. He is not a child.

Kelly claimed that the pro-Israel people (Levin, Shapiro) demand intellectual purity, that one absolutely must denounce any anti-Israel voices like Candace Owens. She said that she wants to know if Israel played any role in the cold-blooded murder of one of the Jewish state's biggest Christian supporters, the late Charlie Kirk. I doubt that the guy in jail for the murder could find Israel on a map. She also praised Nick Fuentes, someone both of these former card-carrying conservatives interviewed. She found him "brilliant" and "absorbing" with important points put forward. I don't know how being on "team Hitler" and being a "big fan" of Joseph Stalin is interesting. I guess an ant also sees a squirrel as something big and impressive. After her talk and Mark Levin's response, she clarified that she meant to say that those compliments referred to his views on government and not on the incineration of Jews. Thanks for the belated clarification.

Kelly and Carlson live in an alternate universe when it comes to Israel and her supporters. That someone like Ben Shapiro supports Israel does not make him "Israel First." I know of no policy suggestion or demanded action that was for Israel's benefit and America's detriment. The U.S. gives Israel a lot (which is spent almost completely in the U.S.) and also gets a lot. Ask the guys who flew over Caracas if their training or equipment had been changed since the Gaza War started. Israel is feeding the Pentagon and contractors like Lockheed Martin data worth more than gold. Not only is there Israeli tech in the F-35, Israel has more actual combat data for every major air platform than anybody else.

One can dislike Israel and Jews as much as he or she likes. "They think that they are the chosen people." "They only care about Israel." "They lie about their murderous genocide and famine in Gaza." I could not care less. As long as there have been Jews, there have been Jew haters. But just as much as one can hate Israel, he might want to apply the Victor Davis Hanson test: Do you hold other countries to the same standards? If you claim that Israel killed too many civilians, then will you say the same about the U.S. and Brits, whose civilian-to-combatant death rate was far higher in places like Fallujah and Basra? Do you claim that Turkey is brainwashing you because it has been holding half of Cyprus for 50 years, and somehow you have never attacked any Turks for their illegal occupation?

People are allowed to be full-blown antisemites. It violates no laws. What one cannot do is invent strawmen or play the victim. Also, one should not lie. Don't claim that Israel did things that she did not do. Don't pretend that the Palestinians are innocent or that the civilians are mere bystanders. Virtually every house in Gaza had a copy of "Mein Kampf" or the like. Most had tunnels. We saw the Gazans jumping wildly when dead, wounded, and terrified Israelis were brought to the Strip. And unlike German citizens, not one Gazan lifted a finger to get an Israeli back to his family. Hate Jews, but just don't lie about it. Hate Jews, but don't spin people or events on their heads so that you can feel good about yourself. Be an honest antisemite and say that you just don't like Israel and Jews. Too pushy. Too successful. Too smart. Hate Jews for whatever reasons you want, but don't blame Israel or Ben Shapiro for your chosen hatred.

The reason why people focus so much on Carlson, Owens, Kelly, Piers Morgan, and others formerly considered to be on the political Right is two-fold: each expressed in the past support for Israel, and each claims to have problems with Israel while not being antisemitic. But things don't add up. If you claim that Israel is doing X and China, Russia, and Turkey are doing X on steroids, why don't you mention them or attack them as frequently as you do Israel? When Carlson endlessly praised Qatar, why didn't he mention their lousy human rights record or the 6,500 foreign laborers who died building the World Cup stadiums? Why do they claim that Israel is attacking Christians when she is not, but in Nigeria, they are killing them wholesale? Let's say I don't want to go to my aunt's birthday party. I am embarrassed to tell my wife that I could find better things to do with my time. So, I bring back some unpleasant things she said two decades earlier, or I claim that her politics are revolting, and I can't be in the same room with her. Carlson and Kelly have some problem with Jews and Judaism. For a long time, we knew nothing about it. But then it became attacks on Israel. And finally, when picked to choose between being friends with lying Jew haters and honest Jews, they chose the former and completely removed their masks.

I don't like writing about people who hate Jews, but if we say nothing, then they win. Carlson, the other day, claimed that the U.S. entered World War II after Germany entered Poland. He was off by over two years. Nobody's nose grows or gets an electric shock while lying. But lie they do.
