Some Victims Are More Equal Than Others

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Two students were murdered by an unknown monster at Brown University over the weekend and the odds are pretty high you don’t know their names. I don’t blame you; you don’t have to, and, unless you knew them, you have no real reason to. But I bet you know the names of some of those left-wing gun control students who’ve formed anti-Second Amendment groups and have gone on to become progressive cable news celebrities. Seems odd, doesn’t it? Until you realize that not all victims are created equally.

It's a deviant sect on the left that only cares about people’s well-being if those people agree with them; everyone else is disposable. Unless, that is, Democrats can use their deaths to advance their agenda, then they’ll pretend to care.

Find yourself insufficiently “woke,” and your life will not matter, but a lifetime criminal junkie’s life matters, provided they were of a preferred skin tone. Have I mentioned the fact that Democrats are gross, because I meant to.

One of the victims at Brown was the vice president of the College Republicans there, Ella Cook. Her life mattered, but not to Democrats. They are barely able to half-heartedly offer up a gun control solution to this case because they don’t care enough about it.

The other victim, Mukhammad Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, has barely warranted a mention because they want to get off the topic as quickly as possible. Maybe I sound cynical, but that’s only because I know how these people work.

Meanwhile, David Hogg remains a “survivor” of the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, is a Democratic “star,” having been elected to the party’s leadership (before losing, hilariously, because he’s white) and now commanding millions in Super PAC money and receiving slobbering interviews.

Hogg’s name will resonate with Democrats for years; the names of Umurzokov and Cook will be wiped clean from history, should their killer turn out to be inconvenient to the left.

I don’t know who the killer is, and I don’t care beyond wanting them caught and preferring them dead (thought that’s not an option in Rhode Island), but if it turns out to be someone useless to the left, expect the story to disappear faster than the buffet at a Jerry Nadler fundraiser.

How much have you heard about the murder of a Jewish MIT professor on the same day as the Brown murders? Probably some, you’re up on the news, but not much and certainly not a running narrative on cable television. The Bondi Beach massacre is already fading because A) it didn’t happen here and B) the left favors the sentiments of the perpetrators over the victims.

Yes, it’s true, and you know it. Jews are a permanent enemy to the left and always have been. Look up the progressive writings from the start of the progressive movement in the early 20th century and you’ll see the early stages of what became Hitler and, ultimately, a disturbingly large percentage of tenured professors and news editors around the globe.

Who the victim of a horrific attack is matters, as does who the perp is. When Republicans were attacked on a baseball field in 2017, once the media learned it was committed by one of their viewers and a committed Bernie Sanders fan, they moved off the story before Steve Scalise was even off life support – relegating it to occasional updates, not non-stop coverage. When a liberal is the victim, it matters and is reported; if a dozen people are shot in Chicago over a weekend, not even the political leadership in the city bothers to comment on it.

It's hard to feel bad for people who vote for their victimizers, but outside Democrat cities, there are Americans simply trying to go about their lives, too. Their lives matter, and the students at Brown were working to make their lives matter even more. That, in addition to Cook’s political beliefs, made their lives not matter to Democrats. To everyone else, to normal people, they did and do, no matter who murdered them or why they did it.
