Restoration in Progress

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

As Tucker Carlson has said many times, we just want the country in which we grew up.

In our part of Las Vegas, there was not much hoopla before or after the election.  Sure, near the polling station, there were many signs and people giving out flyers.  And while most of the signs were clearly of the Trump/Vance variety, the Las Vegas Sphere showed a massive Harris-Walz advertisement on it.  One less place for me to visit during our trips to the city where my parents retired and are buried.

The day after the election, we went for a trip to Red Rock. Near the calico stones were signs around a closed-off area that read, “Restoration in Progress.” Our son Daniel showed me one such sign and said that it should be the title of my next article on this website.  And he is right.

While those on the left, including every card-carrying member of the traditional and non-X social media, called Donald Trump and his associates every evil name from Hitler to racists, the facts are quite different.  Sure, for nearly 20 years, the Democrats have written off normal Americans as being “clingers” or “deplorables” or “garbage” and the like.  But, what do the tens of millions of American who voted for Donald Trump ultimately want?  How can orthodox Jews, Hispanics, black men, Amish and more find common cause?  It is because they want the country they remember.  It is because they want an America that is normal.  What do they want?

*People who steal from stores go to jail, and security in such stores are empowered to hold such individuals until the police arrive.  If there is no guarantee to property rights, then we have nothing.

*People want a functional border like every other country in the world has.  We let in whom we wish and we keep out the rest.  This is not racism or bigotry.  Controlled, legal immigration has allowed the U.S. to bring in good future citizens and keep out the tens of thousands of criminals that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris let into the country during their reign of error.

*People want fair and honest elections, independent of outcome.  One day of voting would be the best, with paper ballots, required picture ID, and results in hours not days.  If the people do not believe in the process, they will not obey their leaders.

*People want the guys out of women’s sports.  Americans are very tolerant people, and most could not care less what others do with their time and money.  But if guys feign being women and take the ladies’ hardware, then we have a problem.  Ditto for transitioning children too young to vote or drive a car.  This trans stuff needs to be limited to adults doing their own thing and not harming children or stealing women’s glory.

*People want an army that scares our enemies.  We are not interested in trans officers or pronoun police.  We are tired of failures such as the ham-handed retreat from Afghanistan or ships colliding with one another.  We’ll know that the military has gotten its act together when it no longer has problems meeting its recruiting requirements.

*People want a fair shot.  The whole concept of DEI and Kamala Harris being anointed as the Democrats’ candidate for the presidency is based on rewarding color, sex or other meaningless features instead of quality.  People want to know that if they work hard they will be given a shot.  This goes for college admission, job acceptance or moving up the corporate ladder.  Performance counts; color, sex, race, etc. do not.

*People want leaders who are responsible to them.  They are tired of seeing their leaders exempting themselves from the very laws that they pass.  They want their leaders to act as examples. They want failure punished and success rewarded.  They want leaders who tell the truth and remember that they work for us.

*People want food, goods, services, and energy to be at prices that they can afford.  I was at the kosher supermarket today, and four sticks of butter were $14.  I could not bring myself around to pay that much for such a simple item.

Nothing I’ve listed above is radical.  The folks in the media may call Trump’s supporters Nazis or Neanderthals, but at the end of the day, they want an America that is successful and that works.  They want a country that gives them a shot, one where they can take their chances of realizing their dreams.

It is my hope that all of those who swore up and down that they would leave the country if Donald Trump was reelected will keep their word.  I hope that when we fly home to Israel from LAX, I will see them all lining up for their flights to England, Australia and wherever else their one-way tickets will take them.  The left wildly overplayed its hand in pushing trans, allowing millions of people to enter the country and destroy communities from coast to coast and threaten the core values of the country as embodied in the Constitution and God-given rights.  They thought that they could just keep moving left, that there was no need to think about the working man or the competing woman.  They were certain from all of the noise that they made in the news and via social media that they were unstoppable.  But their candidate had nothing on which to run.  What did she mean by an “opportunity economy”—does anyone know what that is?  How do you make one?  They lost by millions of votes and dozens of electors.  Their defeat is glorious because they did their best to “fundamentally change” the United States of America into a Marxist hellhole.  They did enormous damage, but they lost.

Just as Hamas did not have to enter Israel to slaughter 1,200 people and Hezbollah did not have to support Hamas, the Democrats have brought about their own destruction.  The days of Obama, Schumer, Pelosi, Kerry, Biden, Clinton, etc. are over.  Will they learn that they need to return to normal?  Of course not.  AOC and the youngins in the party will never learn.  And hopefully they will never win again. Donald Trump’s victory is extraordinary, and it was brought about by his appeal to the ordinary American.
