Two Reasons I Reject Leftism

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Modern leftism has been plaguing the world for over 200 years, and finally obtained political power in many places about 100 years ago. We have seen its fruits.  It is a horrible system. Let me give you two reasons, among many, I reject it.

1. I’m not a Leftist because it is philosophically in error from its very roots. I have been studying Leftist (Marxist, atheistic) ideology for half a century and its whole view of the world, from bottom to top, is simply flawed. Any ideology that begins by denying the most basic, fundamental reality in existence—God—will end up far, far away from truth and rationality, and will be horribly destructive—as Leftism certainly has been. If Leftism has done any good in the world, it is only when it acted in harmony with the eternal principles of goodness and virtue that flow from God. But when they have denied these principles, which is the core of their philosophy, the result has been death and destruction for countless human beings and countries. Cancer spreads and destroys.

It starts with the foundation, and if you go wrong from the beginning, you will inevitably end up in the wrong place. If I am in Dallas, and want to go to Los Angeles, but I go east instead of west, I’m not going to reach California—unless I make a near 360-degree circuit around the globe. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” Deny that as the starting point, and you will always arrive at an erroneous destination—unless you come full circle back to it. Leftists give no indication they intend to do that. I reject Leftism because it is, philosophically, fundamentally incorrect and thus devastating to humanity.

2. I reject Leftism because of the kind of people it produces. A couple of years ago, before I started publishing my substack, I had a blog page online. Some liberal (I’ll call him Charley) found it, and began making long, rambling comments on nearly every article I wrote. At first, I tried to answer him, but I finally figured out I was wasting my time, so I cut him off, and then soon after, started my substack anyway. Well, Charley located my email address and started sending me emails. I didn’t have the time or inclination to argue with him—Jesus said don’t cast your pearls before swine, i.e., don’t waste your time with people who aren’t going to listen—so I kindly asked Charley to quit sending me emails, that I wasn’t reading them, that I would NOT read them, so please desist.  After about the third time I asked him, he finally stopped writing. Until recently. Now, Charley is sending me emails again. Fortunately, I have a wise server that knows junk mail when it sees it and sends his stuff there.

But here’s the point—I asked him, kindly, repeatedly, to quit writing. He did for a short time, but now is doing it again. This is the kind of people Leftism creates. They have no respect for anybody. They think they have all the answers, you need to listen to them, and they will ram it down your throat if you don’t.

Folks, I completely and thoroughly reject Leftism because this is all these people live for. They don’t believe in God or an afterlife, they have no hope except for what they can get on this earth. In their own minds, they are obsessed with being right, and they feel compelled to force it on other people, too.

Charley has to keep writing to me because...that’s his life. Trying to convince others that he’s right. He has no other reason for his miserable existence. Now, I certainly believe in attempting to help people, which is why I write these Townhall articles, and post things on my substack and X, but if people don’t accept it, I don’t lose any sleep over it. I’m not getting younger, I’m going to meet God in the not-too-distant future, and that is a whole lot more important to me than even who is elected President this year. One hundred years from now not a single person who is currently reading these lines will care who was elected President in 2024. Now again, I certainly insist we all should do the best we can while we are on this earth, but I think a little bit of eternal perspective would indeed be very wise, too.

The slippery-slope of Leftism is what is dangerous. I hope the obnoxious Charley would never slide to the depths of a Stalin or Mao, but his philosophy logically leads to it. Charley is so obsessed with me believing him that he doesn’t have the decency to respect my request not to write. How far does that go? Charley doesn’t have any political power, but what we have seen in the last 100 years is that, when Leftists DO obtain political power and people don’t believe and accept the doctrine Leftists demand they accept, those innocent people end up dead or maimed or in gulags. Look at what the Democratic Party’s Leftist tyrants in America have done to Donald Trump. The J6 protesters. Steve Bannon. Peter Navarro. Seventy-year-old pro-life grandmothers.  Obey—or suffer.

I’m not a Leftist because of the kind of people they produce—people like Charley who don’t have the decency to honor a simple request because he is fixated on his own “rightness” and he is trying to force me to accept it, too. But following that logic to its ultimate conclusion produces Stalin, Mao, Pelosi, Biden, and the Democratic Party, who have no God they believe in but themselves. And if you don’t believe in THEIR God, then off comes your head.

Leftism is wrong philosophically. And that is further evident by the kind of people Leftist philosophy produces. It needs to be eradicated from the earth.
