Joe Biden Is the ‘Cheap Fake’

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Democrats, as they often are, have entered a new phase of disarray in recent days ahead of President Joe Biden’s first 2024 debate against former President Donald Trump. The main concerns: Biden’s approval ratings have been underwater — for years at this point — and poll after poll shows the president hemorrhaging support among voting groups key to his 2020 coalition. Those in Biden’s circle have been described as having a “freak out” about November and, as a result, they’re grasping at straws and reminding Americans that Joe Biden is the cheap fake.

Politico recently noted “Biden's stubbornly poor polling and the stakes of the election are creating the freak out” among his inner circle. That freak out was put on full display this week when White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre tried to claim that videos of President Biden appearing lost, confused, and disoriented are “cheap fakes.” Except, they’re not fake, manipulated, or edited.

Ironically, it is the Biden White House that releases edited videos with multiple takes abruptly clipped together in order to make the president appear slightly more coherent.

Despite the obvious challenges Biden and his handlers are trying to conceal, the president’s inner circle still thinks it can convince the American people to avoid believing their “lying eyes.” Meanwhile, according to reporting from Axios, Democrats with a bit more distance from the turmoil-ridden White House say it’s “unclear to many of us watching from the outside whether the president and his core team realize how dire the situation is right now, and whether they even have a plan to fix it.”

Clearly, Biden’s inner circle and closest advisors do not have a plan, as evidenced by the White House’s insistence that the president is a card-carrying member of Mensa — just as it insists the economy is great, the border is secure, and Biden is a foreign policy savant.

Also according to Axios, those “close to the president…worry about raising concerns in meetings because Biden’s group of longtime loyal aides can exile dissenters.” That is, the White House echo chamber of bad ideas and even worse excuses for Biden’s problems is essentially impenetrable.

But if the White House wants to talk about “cheap fakes,” why not.

After denying a crisis at the border of his creation for years, Biden and the White House are now seeking credit for weak executive actions to supposedly “secure the border” we were told for years was entirely secure and under control. Biden’s concern about illegal aliens and the threats they pose to Americans are fake and the partisan reason for the about-face is a cheap political ploy.

In the days after the October 7 Hamas massacre in Israel, Biden declared complete support for the Jewish state and its right to self-defense. Then, when the Rashida Tlaibs of the country freaked out and threatened Biden’s re-election chances in key states like Michigan, the president proved his “ironclad” support was, well, fake, by demanding a ceasefire, withholding military aid, and undermining Israel. Again, it was cheap political calculus that made Biden abandon our greatest ally in the Middle East.

Remember August 2021 when Biden’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan turned deadly? Thirteen U.S. servicemembers were killed by an ISIS-K suicide bomber at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul. Scores of Afghan allies were also killed in the Abbey Gate blast and an unknown number of Americans and other allies were left to fend for themselves against the Taliban. Biden called the disastrous operation a stunning success, said he wouldn’t change anything if he had a do-over, and Americans were expected to applaud the record-setting airlift. Biden’s “success” in Afghanistan was fake — despite his administration’s cheap attempts at an undeserved victory lap.

Time and time again, Joe Biden uses cheap political hackery to present a fake version of reality. While videos of Biden’s deteriorated state are very real, his “success” and “accomplishments” are entirely fake.
